Dear Reader,
I’m sorry to say that the book you are holding in your hands is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three very unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe. From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news, continuing on through the entire story, disaster lurks at their heels. One might say they are magnets for misfortune.
In this short book alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, and cold porridge for breakfast.
It is my sad duty to write down these unpleasant tales, but there is nothing stopping you from putting this book down at once and reading something happy, if you prefer that sort of thing.
With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket
My emulation
Dear Alfred and Fran,
I’m sorry to say that after reading my letter that you most defiantly have a very pleasant feeling form in your heart and stomach . It is about the best day of my life but most likely the worst day of yours. Your children one too beautiful to go unnoticed and one so nice even to the most terrible of people. From the beginning I knew what had to be done when I first saw them on that fateful day in the park. One might say they are magnets for misfortune.
In the letter you are about to read you will discover what had happened to your wonderful kids in a story where there are many sparkly clothes, locks and restraints, a grand escape.
It is my duty to inform you about this unpleasant truth, but there is nothing stopping you from ripping this letter up and filling your day with something happy, if you prefer that sort of thing.
With all due respect,
The Neighbor
Daniel Handler has played a huge role in my reading and writing identity as well as growth. Particularly his Series of Unfortunate Events novels. I first began reading them when I was in grade 5. They were not very difficult reads at all but it was his very unique style that reall y enticed me to read more. I found it
